HAIRSPRAY 5-Star Theatricals SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

You can submit yourself for HAIRSPRAY casting consideration in any of the following ways:

  1. You can submit to the breakdown on Actors Access (or on Breakdown Services, if you have representation).

  2. You can attend the in-person open call for SINGERS on Thursday, 7/31. This notice with all specifics can be found on Backstage, Playbill, Broadway World, or the Actor's Equity website (if you are a member).

  3. You can attend the in-person open calls for DANCERS on Friday, 8/1. Note that there are notices for two separate dance calls on the 1st: one at 9 AM PT and another at 11 AM PT. These notices with all specifics can be found on Backstage, Playbill, Broadway World, or the Actor's Equity website (if you are a member).

    1. OPEN CALL NOTES: If you are a member of  the Actor's Equity Association, you can sign up for an open call appointment slot through the Actor's Equity website. If you are NOT a member of the Actor's Equity Association, you simply show up to the open call, put your name on a list, and will then likely have a wait until you can be squeezed in (for the dancers calls, there likely won't be much of a wait). NOTE: we cannot guarantee everybody will be seen at the open call, so option 4 below may be your best bet to guarantee casting consideration. Just a friendly reminder that we need NON-EQUITY performers for this production (there are only a few Equity contracts for the entire cast)

    2. NOTE: You are welcome to attend BOTH the singers call on the 31st and the dancers call on the 1st, if you would like.

  4. You can email our Casting Directors - Michael Donovan and Richie Ferris - a self-taped audition at casting@5startheatricals.com and include the following

    1. Headshot

    2. Resume

    3. A short clip of you singing (something appropriate to the style of the show; singing from the show is welcomed and encouraged). If you are a dancer looking to be considered for the dance ensemble, please include dance reel/clips/footage as well.

    4. Slate: Please include a slate with the following:

      1. Name

      2. Height

      3. Equity Status (are you AEA or NON-AEA)

      4. Age (ONLY If you are under the age of 18)

      5. Confirmation that you are local to Los Angeles/Thousand Oaks

    5. NOTE: Please send in a downloadable format (Dropbox, Google Drive or Vimeo are preferred...WeTransfer is less ideal but still works...please do NOT send a Youtube link)

      1. Make sure the permissions are OPEN on the link you're sending. If you only grant access via the 5-Star email address, we won't be able to open it.

      2. WeTrasfer links expire (sometimes before we get around to watching them), which is why we prefer you use a different method.
